There are nine different Disney princess costumes including Arial, Aurora, Mulan, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, and most recently, Tiana. Many outfits can be very simple to buy and make while some are best bought in stores. There is also enough variety for children and adults alike to pick a costume they will enjoy for years.
Arial debuted in The Little Mermaid and is the only red headed mermaid of the Disney princesses. A costume for this character will require either long, natural, red hair, or a wig, a purple bikini top, and a skirt that gives off the appearance of being fins. This is better found through a store unless you are very good at sewing.
Aurora is better known as The Sleeping Beauty and is a good costume for a young girl with long, pretty blond hair. She has a long, pink dress with full sleeves and a white collar. The skirt will need to flow well, and because of this, buying fabric to make a dress like this would be expensive. Cinderella with her floor length gown, Snow White with her blue, red, and white dress, Belle with her yellow ball gown, and Tiana all fall into this category. Creating the dress yourself if you are a great seamstress would give you the opportunity to create something very authentic but it will also cost much more money than most costumes from online shops and costume stores.
Jasmine from Alladin wears a blue belly dancer costume that has the most creative potential. You can create your own veils to make the outfit your own, and find Jasmines earrings and headband at many accessories stores. This costume can also have skin-colored belly pieces and sleeves for little girls and if you make your own, you can change the color variation.
The many different Disney princess characters allow girls to pick and choose from many different looks. There is also talk of adding Rapunzel to the cast of princesses in the near future giving a Disney princess fan even more room to decide what character she wants to be at costume parties.
