Pink Princess Costume

Most girls are princesses at heart, especially little girls. A pink princess costume is the most-desired piece in a princess wardrobe, preferably trimmed with lace, sparkles and shiny sparkles. Everyone knows that glitter is the true mark of a preschool princess. She who wears the most glitter wins.

While princess costumes re readily available at department stores, toy stores, and party stores, they are also easy to craft yourself. One idea is to check your closet or a local thrift store for an inexpensive used prom or bridesmaid gown. You will get a very nice fabric for a small price. Any stains or rips are easily avoided when cutting your pieces. The zipper or other fastenings can be reused if desired by careful placement of your pattern. For young children, elastic is easy to add, makes it easy for the child to put on and take off the princess costume, and allows the garment to fit for a longer period of time.

Pink Princess CostumeAnother option is to look at the remnants and mark-downs at your local fabric store. You can often find great deals in the left-over bins. Also, consider using a lining fabric as it is much less costly than dress fabrics, and machine washable, too. Even bits of trim and lace are often marked down, and since children are so much smaller, a yard of trim goes a lot further than it does for an adult sized dress.

Let your little girl help you pick out the material, if possible, and have some input into the style. It’s a special dress, and she will enjoy helping as much as she will enjoy wearing it. After all, every princess needs a pink princess costume.
